Welcome to Argonaut Drama!

Argonaut Drama Argonaut High Drama gives students knowledge and understanding of the ancient art of theatre through reading, analysis, discussion, rehearsal, stagecraft, and performance.

Beginning Drama focuses on the fundamentals of acting through improvisation, scene work, and the practicum of performance.

Advanced Drama builds on these skills, adding the components of classical acting and festival competition.

Stagecraft teaches students the technical aspects of theatrical production, allowing for hands-on practical work.

Yearly performance projects include talent showcases, a live holiday radio show, participation in regional theatre festivals, student-directed one-acts, children's theatre, and a yearly Shakespeare production.

Argonaut Drama has been regularly acknowledged for excellence in high school theatre, winning Gold (2016) and Silver (2013) for overall production at the Lenaea Theatre Festival, and Superior (2014) and Excellent (2016, 2015, 2013) at the Motherlode Drama Festival.

Presenting the 7th Annual Recorded-Live Broadcast of
A Christmas Carol!

Argonaut Drama
Hearkening back to the "good old days," when families gathered around the radio for their evening's entertainment, the Drama Department of Argonaut High School is joining forces with Hometown Radio to broadcast a recorded-live performance of A Christmas Carol on KVGC 1340 AM, to be performed in front of a live audience on Friday night, December 22, in the Multi-Purpose Room of Argonaut High. The program is a one-hour dramatization of Charles Dickens' classic tale, including a specially crafted music score and live sound effects performed by the students. Doors open at 5:30pm for a spaghetti dinner, complete with salad and french bread, followed by a dessert auction and 50/50 raffle. The performance begins promptly at 7pm.

Ticket prices for dinner and the show are only $12.50 when purchased by December 18, $17.50 at the door. Children aged 4-10 are $7.50. Because of the nature of the performance, children younger than 4 are not recommended. To purchase tickets, see any Drama student, or print out the Ticket Order Form, which may be dropped off at the school. For more information, contact Mrs. Flint at 257-7731. Donations are also welcome and are tax-deductible.

The production is sponsored by KVGC Hometown Radio 1340 AM; and the Jackson Rancheria (Drama’s 2017-2018 Season Sponsor).

Argonaut Drama Wins Highest Honor at Regional Theatre Festival

Argonaut Drama On February 11, 2017, Argonaut Drama competed at the Lenaea Theatre Festival, an event attended by 68 high schools and over 1,200 participants, taking home three awards, including the Festival's top prize, given to Argonaut senior, D'Lynn Zagami. To a standing ovation, D'Lynn received the Bob Smart Spirit of Lenaea Award, the festival's highest honor, for exhibiting "the values that [Lenaea] strives to honor and celebrate."

Last spring, D'Lynn suffered a major depressive episode. With the help of Siramanee Ruchupanai and Elyssia Maysee, she wrote the one-act, "It's Reflection," telling her journey from despair to hope. She researched how to handle the topics of depression and attempted suicide responsibly. She consulted with mental health professionals. She visited an educational touring program, and met with its director. In writing the piece, she probed her own wounds, but always with an eye for how she could make others feel better, to know they were not alone.

To create meaning out of personal tragedy is to fulfill one of theatre's most sacred missions: to share stories; to empathize; to know what it means to be human and to struggle. That is what D'Lynn achieved in her play, and why she was recognized by the Lenaea judges.

Argonaut Drama is also pleased to announce two other awards: an Outstanding Performance award for Elyssia Maysee, and one of only three Original Script Awards for "It's Reflection." This is the second year in a row Argonaut has won for Original Script, including last year's "Phoenix," written about the Butte Fire. Congratulations to all!
